AtlanticWave-SDX 2.0: Improving network services for Major Facilities and R&E networks using Dynamic Orchestration and Service Provisioning

vassi2024-12-20T19:56:56+00:00

The AtlanticWave-SDX 2.0 project demonstrated its cutting-edge platform for dynamic, policy-driven cross-domain network orchestration at the SuperComputing 2024 (SC24) Conference. This innovative system enabled seamless service provisioning across research and education (R&E) networks through its SDX Controller, which integrated with local controllers, a path computation engine, and domain managers. The demo highlighted user-friendly provisioning via multiple interfaces, including REST APIs, MEICAN, and Python-based SDXLib. Attendees witnessed capabilities like L2VPN provisioning, path reprovisioning, and integration with the FABRIC testbed, showcasing AtlanticWave-SDX’s potential to enhance automation, resiliency, and efficiency in modern network environments.

The implementation of user interface integration with MEICAN and The SDXLib on Jupiter Notebook was shown, offering user-friendly configuration interfaces that provided an intuitive way to manage and monitor network services.

Attendees joined us at SC24 for the AtlanticWave-SDX 2.0 demo, where we explored the future of automation, efficient network orchestration, and simplified user control.

Title:  AtlanticWave SDX 2.0: Dynamic Cross-Domain Network Orchestration and User-Friendly Provisioning for Major Facilities and R&E Networks

Abstract: The Atlantic Wave Software Defined Exchange SDX 2.0 project, NSF award #OAC-2029278, introduces a powerful platform for dynamic, policy-driven, cross-domain network orchestration and service provisioning across research and education networks. The presentation will focus on the SDX Controller, which is the central point of the AW-SDX system, coordinating with the Local Controllers (LC), the Data Model, the Path Computation Engine (PCE), and domain managers such as Kytos and OESS. The SDX Controller’s tasks include

Collecting domain topology from all Local Controllers
Assembling a global network topology
Handling user end-to-end connection requests
Computing optimal paths via the Path Computation Engine (PCE)
Distribute connection requests to the appropriate local controller
