The GEFI series of workshops grows out of an agreement between the Global Environment for Network Innovations (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geni.net\/\">GENI<\/a>) and Future Internet Research and Experimentation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ict-fire.eu\/\">FIRE<\/a>) projects in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/groups.geni.net\/geni\/wiki\/GENIFireCollaborationWorkshopSeptember2015\/Session4\">2015<\/a>\u00a0to advance the joint interests in hosting at-scale experimentation in future internet architectures.<\/p>\n<p>CIARA FIU partnered with the GEFI Workshop organizers under the NSF projects: SwitchOn Workshops (NSF Award #\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=1443285&amp;HistoricalAwards=false\">1443285<\/a>\u00a0) and GEFI Workshop (NSF Award #\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=1724805&amp;HistoricalAwards=false\">1724805<\/a>) to provide participants support. The goals were to encourage collaborative research across international boundaries, in a set of topics that are interesting to researchers in each of the participating countries:<\/p>\n<p>Investigations of the research infrastructures suitable for hosting at-scale experimentation in future internet architectures, services, and applications, and use of such infrastructures for experimental research.<\/p>\n<p>A collaboration that will encompass joint specification of system interfaces, development of interoperable systems, adoption of each other\u2019s tools, experimental linkages of the testbeds, and experimentation that spans the infrastructures.<\/p>\n<p>Envision that students and young professors from participating nations will visit each other and collaborate deeply in these activities, in hopes of sparking friendships and life-long research collaborations between the communities.<\/p>\n<p>The GEFI program can be found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/indico.rnp.br\/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=243\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Heidi Morgan and Dr. Julio Ibarra participated in\u00a0GEFI Workshop\u00a0which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on\u00a0October 26-27, 2017, and was hosted by the Brazilian national research and education network &#8211; Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa (RNP).
